The Hybrid Practice

Bridging functional medicine and traditional chiropractic care. Blending in-person and virtual care. The practice model a lot of chiropractors are thinking about for months or years but aren’t sure how to create.

The quick answer

A hybrid chiropractic practice blends chiropractic care with functional medicine, virtual care, or both. It works best when it grows out of how you want to care for people. It struggles when it's mainly a reactive attempt to fix a practice that's burning you out under the guise of somehow being easier or more lucrative.

Calling or a reactive fix?

A lot of the chiropractors I talk to have a version of the same idea tucked away. Add functional medicine. Have location freedom in the form of a virtual practice. Build the thing that blends what you trained in with what you've come to believe about healing.

Sometimes that idea is the truest thing about them. It's the practice they would have built from the start if anyone had asked them what they wanted.

Sometimes it's a reactive attempt to fix surface-level problems. The insurance battles, the bureaucracy fires, and the twelve-hour days have made the current practice unbearable, and a new model looks like a door out. The trouble is that the reactive patterns come along. A hybrid practice built to escape usually ends up running on the same blueprint as the one it replaced.

I know because I did it. I built real success as a virtual functional medicine health coach, and I burned out there too, because the move itself was a reactive decision. And I brought with it the same limiting beliefs, leadership struggles and identity issues I had in my chiropractic practice. It wasn’t the answer I thought it would be.

A simple test

Describe the practice you want.

Describe the practice you want without mentioning a single thing you're trying to get away from. No insurance, no staff drama, no twelve-hour days. Even if your knee jerk reaction is “I can’t do that” write it down anyway. The question isn’t what’s allowed or not, it’s how can you build it inside an industry that resists creativity and change–staying legal of course. If there's still a clear picture left, with specific patients and a specific way of caring for them, that's worth developing as a vision for your practice. How you get there is something we help you do at the Rooted Practice.
